I’ve been a huge fan of the Miami Vice TV series, to which Michael Mann was an executive producer, so it took little encouragement to rush into the Fulham Road Picture House on Boxing Day to watch such an enthralling masterpiece unfold before my eyes.
Ferrari will mesmerise the seasoned petrol head but also those so far without much interest in motorsport, who will also enjoy being taken back to the era when driving was raw and the smell of burning oils and leaded petrol fused with Europe’s fearless drivers, who fought out a gladiator style road race over a 1000 miles through Italy.
Michael Mann had been grappling with this film for quite some time, since Brock Yates penned his 1991 biography of Enzo Ferrari. Adam Driver is brilliant as Enzo capturing his engineering genius and salesman mastery, which attracted clients such as King Hussein of Jordan to the stable of the world’s most prestigious automotive constructor.
One of the best films out in several years. Would watch at the cinema for a second time
5 stars – In cinemas now
