If you are looking for incredible fashion for incredible individuals then look no further than OIZA, the impossibly chic brand which is bringing the Art of Couture back into the fashion landscape. OIZA is the brain child of Olivia Ozi-Oiza Chance, the half British half Nigerian designer.  Olivia is ethereally chic with model looks whose brand is certain to be a newfound favourite amongst the A list looking for that stand out look.

Ben Douglas, Fashion Insider’s Editor at Large was lucky enough to view Olivia’s latest collection which of course is stunning and to meet the lady in question. One thing that really stands out is not only the craftsmanship but the attention to detail. Olivia being independent has the luxury of being able to truly realise her creative vision.

Olivia is a true innovator.

1) Can you please tell us about your journey to launching OIZA?

The journey started 6 years ago when I started a project called House Of Mother Tongue.

The purpose of the project was to explore my identity of mixed Nigerian and British. It took form of a series of photoshoots which consisted of styling, street photography and editorial in which I made looks. From doing this over the course of 4 years, it had manifested into its own identity and visual language and I came to realise that there wasn’t a brand that blended my two worlds and showcased African narratives in luxury fashion like I was doing so I decided to take the plunge and begin OIZA.

I’m still continuing with House Of Mother Tongue (HOMT) and its now become an ongoing project that I do on the side. You can explore HOMT through my website oiza.co.uk

2) High Points and challenges within your career?

My AW24 debut show was a massive high point but also the biggest challenge to date. I was planning it and creating the collection as well as a full time job where I was heading up a team for another brand.  It was really intense juggling the two and I had zero social life and literally no sleep. It was completely worth it though and I’m so proud with what I achieved. I’m also forever grateful with the community who supported and helped me make it happen. I’ve recently become full time with OIZA and it feels like the real journey within my career has only just begun.

3) Can you tell us about your creative process?

It always starts with the story I want to tell, and I usually weave in something from my own personal experience.  Once I have the narrative I then pick out key themes I find the most engaging and research into that. I love storytelling and so from the beginning to the end visualization of a collection it’s important the narrative runs through whether it’s literal or a nod.

4) Who are the greatest photographers, models and talent you admire?

Photographers have to be Sanlé Sory and James Barnor. FKA TWIGS is an absolute vibe.

5) And who is the OIZA customer?

Men and Women who are unapologetically themselves.

6) What are your top beauty products?

You will never see me skip retinol, hyaluronic acid serum and SPF.

7) What is one thing you would change about the Fashion industry?

Lack of diversity within the design floor and creative director positions. How it’s 2024 and this is still an issue is beyond me, I really feel like the industry has regressed recently.

8) Who living or dead would you like to dress?

FKA TWIGS and Zendaya would be a dream.

9) What is your philosophy of life?

I don’t really have a philosophy per se but I do believe manifestation is a powerful tool to use in life.

10) Can you tell us about any up-and-coming projects?

I’m currently working on Spring/Summer 25 collection that I’ll be showcasing in September… that’s all I can say for now!

11) What are your top fashion tips?

Slowly invest in higher priced timeless pieces, the quality and craftsmanship will ensure it lasts longer but also it’s better for the planet as it may encourage you to shop less but also hold value so you can resell or hand down in the future.
